Stark Industries- Sunday

Sometimes there was music at work that came from nowhere. Most recently it had been annoying Christmas music. There was no January music, so there were just different versions of Auld Lang Syne playing. Rey was in a constant loop of being irritated and then it fading into the background so she could get some stuff done, and then a version would come on that made her remember it was there and then she got irritated again.

Maybe she needed to start bringing earplugs. Or earmuffs. Something to save her ears. Anything.

Second Floor Common Room, Sunday Morning (Jan 4)

Sleeping in for Caleb generally meant an hour or two after sunrise, and his internal clock tended to wake him even if he didn't have an alarm or a rooster.

The night before, he'd glanced into the common room on his way to his dorm room, just long enough to see a couch, comfy chairs, and a kitchen. So once he was fully awake he came in to see about breakfast.

And found himself utterly baffled as to how most of this worked. That looked like a stove but he couldn't see how to light it. He at least recognized the icebox from pictures. Enough so that he knew to look there for milk.

Thank goodness there was cereal.

"Right. The future. Gonna have to figure some stuff out. I wonder if there's a manual for the new fangled fake lookin' stove."

Fandom Museum, Sunday January 4th

Gregorith had heard through the handwavy grapevine that there were new students, so on the off chance they wandered his way, he made doubly sure that the museum's maps and brochures and the like were where they were supposed to be.

He had walked to work disguised but once he'd gotten himself situated he decided to drop it. Unfortunately the possibility that he might scare them put him on edge and so he had on his resting stab face.

Room 223, late Saturday

Sairis still wasn't entirely sure what was going on here or how (or if) he'd ever get back home, but after a stressful day of getting ready for a trip to the capital, raising a horse, a night of riding through a storm, and a day of whatever this was, he was more than ready to get to the room he'd been given and fall asleep.

He found the room and unlocked the door. Hm; he might have to do some wards there. Tomorrow. He walked in and blinked; it was easily larger than his master's room back home, though the two beds said he'd be sharing the space. Which might be awkward, when he was awake enough to think about it.

For now, he went to the bed in the left corner and dropped his bag on it, then dropped himself on it.

Outside The School Gates, Saturday

Liliana had been informed that she was a faculty advisor for a new student, Sairis Karkaroth, which meant that going to today's picnic was mandatory, even if it meant going out in weather pretty much tailor-made for staying inside for. Perhaps next winter, they could campaign for an indoor picnic. With wine.

The rickshaw driver had nearly made it to the gates when Liliana stiffened, looking around wildly. She'd caught a stray bit of magic, which wasn't terribly surprising on this island, except for the type of magic. It was necromancy. "Hold," she called. She wasn't going anywhere until she knew what - and who - she'd caught wind of. A shade was summoned and dispatched at the speed of thought, and returned almost as quickly.

Come, it whispered in her mind. Found. Shades were not thrilling conversationalists, no. But whatever it was, it was not an immediate threat, and so she stepped out of the rickshaw and followed the shadowy form of her spy scout. It led her around a curve in the wall to a random bit of hedge near the school gate, to where a horse had been left.

But not just any horse.

A zombie horse.

A zombie horse she hadn't raised. And, considering how his magic worked, neither had Erasmus. Then who in the Abyss had?

"Come here," she ordered. The horse didn't move. Her eyes narrowed further; it had clearly been ordered to stay where it was. Mmm. That wouldn't do. "Come here," she repeated, this time backing up her command with enough mana that her scars lit up with purple light. That was enough to snap the other necromancer's control over the horse; they'd likely only put enough power in the order to keep the horse from wandering off, not to fight another necromancer for possession of it. "You're a wreck of a thing, aren't you?" she murmured to it, though it was clear that most of the damage had been done to it in life, not in death. "Time to discover who you belong to, no?"

And, more specifically, to discover whether or not a foe had come to Fandom Island.

Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, Saturday, All Day

It always felt like a bit of a stretch to call an event in January a "picnic," and the weather today wasn't helping with how seasonably cold it was outside. Thankfully, there was plenty of warm food to keep everyone toasty, along with as many carafes as The Perk would offer, filled with hot water for tea, light and dark roast coffee, and hot chocolate.

It was time to welcome in another new semester, everyone!

The Park, Friday Evening

Henry had been halfway up the hill back to Pirkstein, his attention caught by a flash of yellow up by the gates - and then, abruptly, with a shout of "Henry!" still in his ears, he no longer was.

Instead he was standing in the middle of the park again, Pebbles by his side, the sunlight cut away to darker skies. He blinked, and then he sighed, deflating somehow, as if he hadn't been expecting this--

And then a loud barking cut straight through his maudlin thoughts.

"Mutt!" he said, surprised, staring at the brown-and-white dog as he sped past Henry and towards the sleeping flamingos. "...Mutt! Get back here! Don't scare the bloody--"

Welcome home, Henry.

Rey's warehouse- Friday afternoon

Once Rey figured out the trick to the popups that had been a thorn in her side for months, they were actually sort of fun? All the time she'd been worrying about the objects themselves was a waste of time when she should have been worrying about the space around the objects. That moved. That she could predict.

She'd started dreading running the course, but she was going at it pretty hard today. She wasn't doing anything to show off yet, but at this point not getting knocked on her ass felt like showing off.

Harley shoved her sunglasses up to her forehead. "Wait, I missed it?"

Bruce, sniffing around the door, offered no answer.

"How do you miss New Year's Eve?!"

No, not to that, either.

But the narrative would wager a guess that the answer would've had something to do with a very complicated string of events that boiled down to running into some gal who knew a guy, who knew another guy, and then completely losing track of time in Atlantic City for several days.

However, the facts were that Harley was home now, as of about five minutes ago, and the store was technically open.

"Geez," she huffed, to Bruce, but really mostly just herself. "Turn your back for two seconds and the world sneaks all kindsa stuff right on past ya."

The Perk, Thursday morning

Right. Continue as you meant to go on. Jon had spent much of the last few weeks holed up in his flat, cuddling Issa (who was about fed up with it now) and feeling sorry for himself for spending the holidays alone. That was enough of that.

Last night he'd made it to the party and actually talked to people, and today he was up early, dressed, laundry and cleaning done, and at the Perk.

And eyeing the drink the barista had given him a little skeptically. "Are you sure - I mean, I don't usually drink coffee if I can help it..."

"Pretty sure this barely counts as coffee. Just try it."

He did, albeit tentatively, and frowned. "I don't even taste any coffee."

She gave him a thumbs up and went to make the next person's drink.

Jon shrugged and sat down with his very much not tea (and not appreciably coffee, either) and a book.

Привет! LiveJournal imports may be slow

Привет and welcome to our new Russian friends from LiveJournal! We are happy to offer you a new home. We will not require identification for you to post or comment. We also do not cooperate with Russian government requests for any information about your account unless they go through a United States court first. (And it hasn't happened in 16 years!)

Importing your journal from ЖЖ may be slow. There are a lot of you, with many posts and comments, and we have to limit how fast we download your information from ЖЖ so they don't block us. Please be patient! We have been watching and fixing errors, and we will go back to doing that after the holiday is over.

I am very sorry that we can't translate the site into Russian or offer support in Russian. We are a much, much smaller company than LiveJournal is, and my high school Russian classes were a very long time ago :) But at least we aren't owned by Sberbank!

С Новым Годом, and welcome home!

Thank you also to everyone who's been giving our new neighbors a warm welcome. I love you all ❤️

Pyramid Lake Lodge, Jasper Alberta, Wednesday Evening

As was tradition, Watts and Steven had arrived at their hotel room yesterday and indulged in the strawberries and champagne that Watts had arranged to be there. Earlier today there had been snowshoeing and skating, and now they were changing out of outdoor clothes and in to something more appropriate for dinner, even if that dinner was just in their hotel room (also tradition).

"The clouds look like they've cleared some," Watts noted, peering out the window. "Perhaps we will get to see the Northern Lights after all."

Atlas Gym; Wednesday [12/31].

It was that time of year again, when Atlas seemed to make the most business, in the form of an influx of gym memberships out of absolutely no where from people who didn't even live on the island that he was likely to never see after January, although sometimes even mid-February. These Resolutioners found their way to Atlas in the hope of making the new year a much healthier and devoted one and eventually petered out of the habit, and Gladio didn't question it, but he did think it was a sort of fascinating phenomenon.

But of course he wanted to try to encourage as many people as possible to stick with it if he could, so today was all about making sure everything was ready to go and in good shape (heh) moving ahead, armed with a clipboard and a checklist, checking up on the equipment, on the stock of towels and cleaning supplies and stickers and Cup NoodleTM, going over some class offerings with the staff, and overall just doing a lot of business-y stuff to prepare.

Not really the kind of thing he ever expected himself to be doing, much less kind of enjoying, but there was something kind of satisfying about it. Though he was mostly relieved when he got to the end of the list and could celebrate with a workout of his own.

Atlas is open!

Caritas- NYE!

What day of the week was it? Who knew! Who cared! The important thing was it was the 31st, and everything else was officially next year's problem.

The bar was done up in a ridiculous amount of Christmas lights, which when paired with the usual metallic balloons and streamers, made for pretty good mood lighting. And sure, the mechanical bull still looked like sort of a lit up monstrosity but it added a certain something to the place.

SPECIALS
Confetti Champagne
Resolution Cocktail
Cranberry Gin Fizz
Frozen Espresso Martini
Apple Cider Spritz Mocktail
Peppermint Eggnog (alcoholic or non!)

Today of course was the day for getting everything finalized for the party, including decorating. It was never anything too crazy (aside from the yearly fight over whether glitter would rain down at midnight), but Kitty had liked the idea of a lot of lights. Which she couldn't find.

At least until she went looking in the back room and found them all on the mechanical bull, lighting it up like some ungodly mechanized beacon, visible from space.

"Tino, I've got a project for you to undo!"

He might be just jinxing himself with that sigh of relief at the calm that awaited him when he opened up, but, hey, man, he was going to take it where he could get it!

He was also looking forward to taking the opportunity to start going through the...literal hundreds (if not thousands!!) of pictures he'd taken in the last month and a half or so.

Forget feeling cramped and running oit of space for the kids! If anything, thry mostly just needed more for all the photo albums.

Infinite Consortium, Monday

The worst thing about teaching was that it forced Liliana to cognizant of time. She preferred to live her life beholden to neither clock nor calendar, and classes meant that there was at least one time per week when she had to be aware of both. Which meant that what many people considered the disorienting, dreamy no-time between Christmas and New Year's Day was her preferred state of existence. She did what she wished when she wished, as was right and proper. Even being at the shop today had less to do with it being Monday and more that Ignis and her steward had decided to undertake some kind of vast, mansion-wide deep cleaning and Liliana had chosen to decamp elsewhere rather than be roped into assisting with that endeavor.

All of which to say that today's delivery of clocks (in fact, several different kinds of clocks) was absolutely insulting.

"You can make me put you in the window, but you can't make me mind you," she informed the different chronology keepers before flouncing back to her seat behind the counter.

Stark Industries- Sunday

Rey loved Christmas, but being around when everyone was with their people and things were quiet got pretty lonely, and so she'd been at home. Learn some things, help some people, get into a fight that helped her feel better about her recent complaints about feeling rusty, it was a good time. She'd gotten back in this morning, so she figured she'd go in to work and be only a little bit late. It'd give her something to do since she was sure things were still on the slow side in town.

Except how there actually was nothing to do, which was pretty uncommon for after the holiday, sooo she was going to clean everything in sight. Yep. Totally worth coming in.
